Day 10 & 11 {30 Day Photography Challenge}

Wow...I am really falling behind! Sorry I have been so absent lately. The bad news is I am still not getting any sleep...the good news is we have progress!! 3 molars are through and 2 "I" teeth are cutting. Almost there. Once I get some sleep I will pick it up, I promise : )

Day 10 - Childhood Memory

I have so many great childhood memories attached to books. I am so grateful that my mom saved some of my favourites. I love reading them to my boys!

Day 11 - Something Blue

My boys love their blankies!

Day 9 - Someone You Love {30 Day Photography Challenge}

This is my gorgeous husband! I took some pictures of him for his MySpace page. He is an amazingly talented singer-songwriter. Finally, after years of hiding his talent from the world, he took the plunge and put some of his songs on MySpace!

You can check out his music HERE!

Day 8 - Bad Habit {30 Day Photography Challenge}

I am a chocoholic...specifically a mint-chocoholic! Mint chocolate is my survival these days. When I am having an energy lapse during the day...when the effects of sleep deprivation hit me...I reach for a square (or 3!) of my chocolate. I know I need to cut down on the sugar eventually, but right now I am going with whatever works ; )

Lace Skirt {Tutorial}

I saw THIS skirt and had to make one!

I went hunting for some lace curtains at the thrift store. I can't stand new know the bright bluish white stuff! I wanted a vintage looking, off-white lace. I found this curtain and knew it would be perfect!

This is a very basic elastic waist skirt. If you want to make your own here is what you'll need:

Lace (I used a thrifted curtain)
Lining fabric (I used a pillowcase)

First step is to measure your hips and the length you want your skirt. Add an inch or so for seam allowance and cut out your pieces. You will be cutting front & back with both the lace and the lining. I cut my lining pieces shorter than my lace since wanted the lace to peek out at the bottom.

Next you will hem the lining pieces.

Layer your fabric right sides together as follows: lining, lace, lace, lining. Pin together.

Sew the side seams. When you press your seams open be really careful with the lace...I don't want it melting on you! Put a damp towel over the seams and carefully press.

Now you are going to fold over the top of the skirt and stitch in place to create the casing for the elastic. Remember to leave an opening so you can add your elastic.

Thread your elastic through the casing, stitch together, and sew the casing closed.

Now try on your new skirt!!

If you make one, take a pic and add it to my Flickr Group. I would love to see what you made!

Alphabet Stones

I found these glass stones at Dollorama and knew the kids would love them...they are so smooth! The package didn't come with enough for a complete alphabet, but there were just enough to spell both the boys' names. I stuck on some alphabet stickers I had in my stash and added a coat of Modge Podge....easy!

I have been wanting to bury them in the sand table so the boys can dig for them...but we have been held hostage in the house by rain and Mosquitos. I think I may have to bring the sand table into the mud room if this keeps up!

I need to head back to Dollorama and pickup some more so I can make a complete Alphabet!

Day 2 - What You Wore Today {30 Day Photography Challenge}

Outdoor Projects

Here are a few of the projects I have managed to tackle outside while the kids play.

Oh spray paint how I love make painting so quick and easy ; ) I spray painted the chairs and side table. The colour combo was looking a little too "Lego Primary" so I stenciled the table with white. I was really disappointed with the spray paint colour selections in town. I have since learned from a Canadian blogger that Michaels has a good selection. We don't have one in town but it would be worth a trip to the city!

I found a white plastic planter for $2 at a garage sale and gave it a little facelift. Love the pop of colour on our front step!

I love how this tea cup bird feeder looks in the garden. Need to hunt for some more tea cups so I can make more! HERE is a tutorial on how to make one.  I didn't have copper pipe so I used a bamboo stick I had on hand.  I think the copper would be much stronger.

It is hot here and the Mosquitos are vicious...I was getting bitten in the grocery store yesterday. I bought a bug zapper hoping it helps so we can actually get outside and enjoy this weather!

Hope you all have a great weekend!

Day 1 - Self Portrait {30 Day Photography Challenge}

Here is my Self Portrait. I had so much fun playing with the camera today! I did some reading up online and learned a few things.

Here is a great article I found for DSLR beginners:
Photography Tutorial: A Quick Guide to Understanding Your DSLR Camera

I still have a tutorial to finish up...hoping to get it done this week. I am so sleep deprived I rarely have the energy/brain power after the kids are in bed to do anything but lay on the couch! Teething is my nemesis!! I don't even remember what it feels like to be rested....full nights sleep?? What is that?? I put the remote in the freezer the other day...yeah, I could use some sleep ; )

Hope you are all getting (a lot) more sleep than I am!

Photography Challenge

30 Day Photography Challenge: White Peach Photography
I saw this 30 Day Photography Challenge on Pinterest. I am late signing up...but I thought it would be fun to do on my own. I really want to learn how to use my camera better and this challenge is the push I need to get practicing! I have had my DSLR for a few years and still don't know how to use it ; ) I need to stop relying on AUTO and learn how to really take a picture!

I will post my pics here starting tomorrow and will add them to the flickr group!  Anyone want to join me??
