This Old House

There are many reasons why I love old houses....

But the best part of this particular old house is that the woman who once owned it (before the stream of renters ran it down) was an avid gardener. Every year I have a yard filled with fragrant lilacs! They are always followed by tiger lillies and then the most beautiful yellow roses. I wish I could meet that women and tell her how much we enjoy the bounties of her garden!

Hope you all have a chance to get out and enjoy your gardens today : )

Home Sweet Home

We are settled back at home after a fun week in Mexico. We soaked up the sun and played in the sand and water! The wedding was fantastic! It was a beautiful ceremony and you couldn't ask for a more beautiful location. It was so amazing to see my little sister marry such a great guy and to see the love they share for each other. Such an emotional day!

I have to admit that I was ready to come home though! Vacations aren't what they used to be...when you are responsible for two young kids ; ) We are exhausted! I need a vacation from my vacation... ha ha! You realize how much kids like their routine when you take them out of it. It was so worth it though and I am already missing the ocean!

We are heading to Mexico tomorrow for my little sister's wedding! If you wonder why I haven't been posting...its because I am on the beach with a margarita in hand ; ) I am looking forward to a whole week of sun, sand, and family!

Hope you all have a wonderful week : )

Thrifty Fun

A little while ago I headed out for a day of thrifting with family. We loaded 3 adults and 4 car seats into the Suburban and off we went!! We had so much fun and found a ton of fabulous stuff. Here some of my treasures...

I found some great vintage sheets and pillowcases! I am planning on attempting my first quilt with these...can't wait to see all those patterns together.

I picked up a big bag of this colorful yarn. Not quite sure what to do with it all yet...but they are pretty!!

The biggest score of the day was this beauty! It is in perfect condition, not a scratch or tear on it! I have no idea what I'm going to do with it...photo prop, side table, chair??

The best part about my new suitcase....it matches my car ; )

Shorty Short Diaper Cover {Tutorial}

Here is the tutorial for the Shorty Shorts! It is my first attempt at a tutorial so hopefully it makes sense. Let me know if you are confused and I will try to clarify!! The pattern is roughly size 12-18 months. The waist is elastic so it is pretty forgiving and could work for a smaller size.
***Download Pattern FRONT & BACK ***

First place your pattern pieces on the fold and cut. Next you are going to line up the side and crotch seams right sides facing each other. Pin and sew together.

Now you are going to add your bias tape around the legs. I used 1/2 inch double fold but you can use any size. I am going to try 1 inch next...I think it will give the shorts a more retro look!

Get your iron out now and you will be creating the waistband casing. Fold over twice and press...making sure the casing is high enough to fit your elastic through. Sew the waistband casing...make sure to leave an opening for the elastic. Measure your little one's waist and using a safety pin guide the elastic through the casing.

Stitch the elastic together and sew the casing closed.

That's it you're done! Now go find your little monkey and try them on...and ooh and aww over how cute their chunky thighs look in shorty shorts!

***Tutorial can be found HERE!***

I managed to finish these diaper covers yesterday...it felt good to get some sewing done and to actually finish a project! I love how they look on my little guy...man I missed seeing those chubby l'il legs all winter.

I am loving all things owl...I hope that trend is around for a while! I couldn't resist an owl applique on the bum : )

I am hoping to have the tutorial up tomorrow...so come back and check it out!

Simple Shorts {KCWC}

I am not getting as much sewing time in as I hoped this week....my 11 month old has been teething non-stop and just got over a nasty stomach bug. I managed to get some quick and simple shorts sewn up for my big boy though!

Kingston LOVES his pajamas and pretty much lives in them until forced to change when we leave the house! I made him some pajama shorts for Summer...light and comfy, perfect for sleeping and playing. I like that they don't look so much like he hasn't got out of pj's all day if anyone stops by ; ) The yellow ones are made from leftover fabric from his construction party and the striped fabric is a thrifted pillowcase.

I also made him some shorts out of this cute Be A Man Fix It Plaid fabric by Free Spirit. He was so excited to see the tools on his shorts and promptly put on his hard hat and contruction vest!

Hoping to get some more sewing done tonight. I am working an a diaper cover pattern and tutorial...hope to have it up tomorrow!

Messy Weekend Fun!

"There comes a time in every rightly constructed boy's life that he has a raging desire to go somewhere and dig for hidden treasure."
Mark Twain

This weekend our family got DIRTY! My hubby built me a raised bed for our vegetables...and the whole family got in on the messy fun.

The boys had so much fun playing in the dirt while he built it! I love seeing those little fingers and toes exploring in the dirt. They were dirty from head to toe...and Damien had a little taste too! The only problem is that the boys now think it is their sandbox... I think there is now a sandbox on our project list ; )
